The Firm

The firm was established in April 1990 when Gerrit Nieuwoudt officially opened a consulting engineers office in Knysna.  In March 1992, Rein Hofmeyr joined the firm and the resulting partnership called Nieuwoudt & Hofmeyr operated for 13 years.  In December 2004 the partnership split up with the immediate establishment of Nieuwoudt & Kie ensuring continuity for its clients.  The services offered include technical advice, planning, preliminary design and feasibility studies, final design and contract administration for projects in the following disciplines:

Structural 

- Commercial, Industrial and Residential Buildings built in structural steel, concrete or timber.
- Foundation investigations and reporting
- Retaining Structures in Marine and Land applications
- Bridge Structures for Roads over River and Canal
- Water Retaining Structures for Storage and Pumpstation Applications

Civil

- Municipal Services to Township, Group Housing Developments
- Pipelines, Pump Stations, Reservoirs and Reticulations.
- Road Planning and Design as well as Rehabilitation including Stormwater Drainage.
- Hydrology and Floodline determinations

Objective

The firm is based in Knysna with a branch office in Plettenberg Bay.  Our primary objective is to ensure, with our knowledge of the local conditions, materials, environment and people, that where we act as the Consulting Engineers on a project, the planning, construction and development are both cost effective to the Developer and sensitive to the Environment and Community.

Work Performed

During the 15 years we have been involved in various projects and developments, either undertaking the planning and design work and the contract administration as the Consulting Engineer or doing the contract administration and construction supervision for out of town Consultants.
